Exercise may improve retiree quality of life

After retirement, older adults may fill their time in a number of ways, from getting a part-time job, volunteering, traveling or just spending time with friends and family. Many retirees are advocating exercise as a way to stay active, ward off boredom and maintaining their health, according to CBS affiliate WJXT.

Four-time retiree Bill Query told the news station that during his first three retirements he was "bored out of [his] skull." He took up exercising as a hobby and a way to stay fit and now attends the gym at least five days a week. In addition to staying healthy, Query told the news station that exercising makes him feel years younger.

"If you're not active, you're going to waste away, that's the truth," Query told the news station.

As adults get older, they tend to develop more health conditions, leading to high medical bills that cut into their retirement income. Exercising may not only ward off future illness, but also help reverse some health conditions, such as achy joints and bones.
